Showcase the people and companies that make-up your community with user directories. Here's how to set them up.
Directories are searchable, filterable lists of people and/or companies registered as users on your Zapnito site. Use them to showcase some or all of your community members, to help people find users with the expertise they need.
The default fields that are displayed in a Person type directory are Name, Country, Job Title and any social media accounts linked to the user profile; whilst an Organisation type directory will display Company Name, Country and social media links by default.
Create a directory
To start, head to the cog in the top right-hand corner of the page and click 'Settings'. Here you will find the Directories tab under the Structure header.
From the directories index page, you will be able to create a new directory and edit or delete any existing directories that you may already have set-up, under the vertical ellipses next to the directory in question.
On the New Directory page, ensure that you give the directory a name and search label as these are mandatory fields.
Directory customisation options
Header nesting
First, you can customise how your directories should be linked to in your site’s left-hand menu. Choose to list the directories at top-level or nest them under a header.
In the example below, you can see three directories that are at the top level of the navigation ('Meet the Team', 'Our Advisors', 'Our Partners').

In contrast, nested directories look like this:

Here, all the directories that contain people are nested under the 'People' header and all the directories that contain companies are nested under the 'Organisations' header. Once the header is clicked you see the directories, like this:

If you would like to relabel the 'People' or 'Organisation' headers to something more relevant to your community, let us know at support@zapnito.com. For a full rundown of the relabelling options on your Zapnito site, check out our handy guide.
Choose a group
The next step is to choose which group(s) you would like to be shown in the directory. Not all groups need to have a directory. It’s common for Zapnito customers to only show their experts in directories and not their 'regular' users.
(The 'Meet The Team' directory on the Zapnito community shows all the members in our 'Zapnito Team Member' group.)
Note that you will only be able to choose groups with a user type that matches the directory type you have specified. To get an overview of the user types linked to your groups, head to the cog in the top right-hand corner of the page and click 'Groups'.
Select custom fields
If you would also like to display custom fields that are applicable to the user groups you have selected, you can do so using the dropdown selector provided. Note that the custom fields will appear in the directory in the order that you have selected them.
Adjust the ordering
Once you have set-up your directories, you may wish to change their ordering in the left-hand menu. To do this, simply drag and drop the directories using the sliders provided which will trigger a 'success' banner at the top of the page.
